Meet Kaleb

Meet Kaleb, a recent graduate of the Merrill Institute’s Summer Semester. Kaleb’s journey towards his welding career is a bit unique, but not uncommon.

In 2018, the Merrill Institute hosted a Manufacturing Day celebration. Three schools were invited to attend this event in which the Merrill Institute offered the students to try their hand at virtual welding, participate in the social media photo booth for an opportunity to win a Lincoln Electric welding hood, and enjoy a pizza lunch. Kaleb was amongst one of the Merrill High School students that attended our Manufacturing Day celebration, and was the lucky winner of a welding hood.

After graduating from Merrill High School in 2020, Kaleb decided that embarking on a welding career was the path he wanted to take, and selected the Merrill Institute to pursue his career goals. He then enrolled and attended the Summer Semester.

During his time at the Merrill Institute, Kaleb enjoyed the 85% hands on training and excelled throughout the 12-week course. Kaleb’s knowledge shined when he received the highest score on the overall final exam. With this score, Kaleb won the prize bag packed full of donated items. Yet again, Kaleb found himself the winner of a 3350 series welding hood that was donated by Lincoln Electric. In addition to the hood, he won a welding jacket and gloves that were donated by Purity, and Merrill Institute apparel.

Kaleb is now a proud graduate of the Merrill Institute, with his nationally recognized AWS SENSE Level 1 certification in hand and ready to begin his journey as a certified welder. Every student that completes the welding program at the Merrill Institute will leave with the confidence and tools they need to excel in today’s challenging workplaces.
